Construction is a big piece of what we do, and we come in at all three points. Rough stage, while the work is still going. Final clean, when the crew is out. Then the touch-up after the walk-through, because there is always a walk-through. Drywall dust does not behave like house dust. It rides the air, settles on top of door frames and window ledges and inside the light fixtures, and drops back down two days later onto a floor somebody already mopped. That is why the final and the touch-up are two separate visits and not one long one.

The rest of the calls sound like this. A move-out with a landlord inspection tomorrow. A short-term rental with a checkout at eleven and new people arriving that afternoon. A kitchen that needs to come apart, the hood, the oven, the strip of wall beside the range where grease runs down and dries, which we book on its own instead of squeezing it into a regular visit. An office that has to be done before Monday. And the Saturday morning after twenty people were standing in your living room.

One time is fine. Weekly, every two weeks or monthly is also fine. You do not have to put yourself on a schedule to get us once.

Sandy Springs one day, Stone Mountain the next

The names that come up most: Buckhead and Piedmont, Sandy Springs, downtown Atlanta and Peachtree Center, Decatur, Stone Mountain, Duluth, Peachtree Corners, Lawrenceville.

That spread means very different buildings in one week. A brick ranch from the fifties on a quarter-acre lot with the original bathroom tile. One of the new apartment buildings going up around the MARTA station, where everything is hard surface and shows every mark. An office suite. A store that has to look untouched before the doors open. You clean a fifty-year-old tub differently than you clean a two-year-old one, and knowing which is which before you arrive is half of getting it right.

If you are past that hour, tell us where you are anyway. Some weeks the route works out and some weeks it does not, and we would rather say so than take the job and show up late.

Pollen gets in through the window tracks

Somewhere between late March and the middle of April, this whole metro goes yellow. You wipe the porch rail and it is back before dinner.

People wipe the flat surfaces and stop. Pollen does not stop at the door. It piles up in the window tracks and the threshold under the sliding glass, along the top edge of the sills, on the upper side of the ceiling fan blades where nobody looks, and in the grille of the return vent. Then summer arrives, high eighties and low nineties with the air heavy, and the problem flips completely. Now it is what damp does: the grout at the bottom of the shower, the caulk seam behind the faucet, the underside of the sink where a slow drip has been going for a month.

Georgia clay is the other one. It does not brush off. It works into grout and into the pile of a light carpet and it stays orange there until somebody actually pulls it out, which is a different job than vacuuming and we treat it as one.

None of that comes out of a manual. Anybody can wipe a counter and make a room look finished. Knowing to check the top edge of the door, the runner under the sliding glass, and the bottom corner of the shower door where the two panels overlap, that comes from finding it in those places enough times to stop being surprised.

Nobody has to translate for you

We work in English and in Spanish, and you pick without having to ask whether it is okay.

In practice that solves small problems that nobody thinks about until they happen. Your mother is the one home on cleaning day and she is more comfortable in Spanish. The tenant in your rental is too. The foreman on a job site speaks one language and the property manager's office runs in the other, and both of them need to talk to whoever is cleaning. Around here that is a normal Tuesday, not a special arrangement.
