What is usually not included

• The machines themselves. Production equipment, workshop tools and gym machines are normally cleaned by the people who run them.
• Anything that needs a lift: high racking, ductwork, ceiling lights. Work at height is quoted on its own.
• Regulated waste — chemicals, solvents, anything with a disposal rule. That leaves the building through its own contractor.

When to book commercial cleaning

Choose this when your premises do not fit the other categories. Tell the cleaner the square footage and what the space is used for, because both change the price.

How long it takes

It depends on the square footage and on how much of it is open floor, so two buildings of the same size can take very different amounts of time. The first visit usually runs long, because the route through an unfamiliar building has to be worked out on the spot.

What makes the price go up

• The floor. Sealed concrete, epoxy, vinyl and safety matting are each a different job
• Whether the place is empty or people are working right through the shift
• Showers and changing rooms, which are a much longer stop than a restroom
• Site rules: a safety orientation, a safety vest, steel-toed boots, a badge to get in

What commercial cleaning looks like in Austin
