What deep cleaning includes

  • Inside the oven and the fridge, with the shelves taken out
  • Behind and under the fridge, the stove and the washer
  • Baseboards, door frames, switch plates and the tops of the doors
  • Hard-water buildup on the shower glass, the tile and the faucets
  • Ceiling fans, vents and light fixtures done by hand
  • Cabinet fronts degreased, handles and edges included

What is usually not included

  • Emptying packed cabinets and closets, which belongs to a move-out clean
  • Carpet and upholstery extraction, a separate job with a machine and drying time
  • Damage rather than dirt: etched glass, worn grout, stained caulk

What makes deep cleaning cost more

  • High ceilings, since the fans, vents and light fixtures then need a ladder in every room
  • Hard water, which turns shower glass and faucets into a scraping job
  • A greasy range hood with filters, and an oven that has never been done
  • Pets and long hair, which collect in carpet edges, vents and baseboards

How long it takes

Expect it to run much longer than a regular clean. The clock is set by how long it has been: the further back the last one, the more there is to take apart and put back.

When to book deep cleaning

Book this the first time you hire someone, after a renovation, before guests, or when a regular clean is no longer enough. It takes considerably longer than a standard clean and costs more.

What to ask before booking deep cleaning

  • Is the inside of the oven and the fridge included, or is it extra?
  • How many people are coming, and how long do you expect to be here?
  • Will the shower glass come clean, or is it stained for good?
