Alpharetta grew fast and the houses show it. Most of the city is subdivision streets of two-story brick and siding homes put up in the last few decades: a two-story entry hall, a bonus room over the garage, and a wall of tall windows facing a wooded backyard. A few streets around the old downtown are much older, with lower ceilings, front porches and small rooms you walk through instead of around.
In the newer houses the height is the problem. Entry hall fixtures, the window above the stairs and the top of a two-story wall need a real ladder and a plan, not a stretch at the end of the day. Dust hides in vents and blinds in rooms nobody sits in. The older places downtown ask the opposite: painted trim, tight corners and floors that show every pass.
